"As a former rugby player and bodybuilding-inspired apostle of hypertrophy, I recently saw the barbell-based light and transitioned fully into powerlifting. I have been working with Angela since then and can confidently say she is a great coach! Firstly, she does as she preaches and the fact that she is competing on a national stage reflects her intricate depth of knowledge of the sport. Secondly, she is collaborative in her approach rather than directive; if you're a novice and you just want someone to write you a full program then Angel will do that. But, equally, if like me you enjoy having control over your own programming she can adapt or advise on training strategies based on your personal feedback and knowledge of you as an athlete. For me this has been critical in the run up to competitions in terms of adjusting training volume and intensities in order to be at peak conditioning before getting on the platform. Lastly, and this is the most important one for me in any coaching relationship, she has a great sense of humour and a genuine passion for powerlifting. If I can't establish a rapport with a coach then it doesn't matter how technically gifted they are. This, however, won't be a problem with Angela and she's been a delight to lift alongside as a training partner, and under her tutelage as an athlete.
